Law enforcement officials have arrested Mashiur Rahman Babu (27), the former vice-president of the banned Chhatra League organization at Patuakhali Science and Technology University. The former Chhatra League leader was arrested during Operation Devil Hunt in Dumki upazila of Patuakhali on Sunday (February 9) night.
This former Chhatra League leader of the 2015-16 session of the Faculty of Law and Land Administration of Pavi Prabi is accused of torturing ordinary students on campus, fighting, and embezzling Victory Day funds.
In this regard, Imrul Kayes, a former student of the Faculty of Fisheries of the University of Dhaka, was informed that he was tortured in the Chhatra League torture cell of the university's TSC under the leadership of Mashiur Rahman Babu in 2018 with a Shibir tag and handed over to the police in a bloody state with a false case. At that time, after hearing the news of Babu's arrest, he also said that he was preparing a case against the torture and false case against him.
In addition, in 2023, Mehedi Hasan Tarek, the general secretary of the banned organization Pabiprabi Chhatra League, was expelled from the organization after getting into a fight with him over the sharing of surplus money for the lighting of the university's Victory Day celebration sub-committee.
In this regard, Dumki Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Zakir Hossain said, "The accused Babu has been arrested in the case of vandalizing the BNP office. He was sent to court on Monday morning."
The others arrested for the same crime are Abu Jafar Jomaddar (49), president of Ward No. 4 of Angaria Awami League, and Serampur Ward No. 3 Krishak League General Secretary Retd. Sergeant Mohammad Ali (54).
