Leaders of the Nationalist Business Forum Sylhet have submitted a memorandum to Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Rezaul Karim demanding a safe and secure environment free from traffic jams and hawkers to protect the interests of the public and businessmen in order to keep the image of the holy month of Ramadan intact. In the memorandum, the business leaders said that they demand a safe and secure environment free from any kind of anarchy, mischief and traffic jams and hawkers during Eid-ul-Fitr and Ramadan.
During this time, business leaders made various demands including taking effective steps to control traffic congestion in the city and ensuring smooth movement of the public by freeing sidewalks and roads, taking effective steps to resettle hawkers in appropriate places, strengthening surveillance to control the prices of daily necessities during the holy Ramadan, so that the prices of goods are within the purchasing power of the common people and negative perceptions are not created among the people about the businessmen, opening two control rooms at the district administration and SMP offices for market monitoring, taking strict measures to prevent rumors in the interest of maintaining law and order, so that instability does not arise in the Eid market, taking effective steps to prevent robbery and extortion, keeping street lights in every alley so that criminal gangs cannot stay in the dark environment, and keeping CCTV cameras in operation at every important point and road. Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Rezaul Karim sought the cooperation of the businessmen to implement all these measures.
