India's statement and Bangladesh's reaction to the demolition of Dhanmondi house number 32
The Indian government has issued a statement strongly condemning the recent demolition of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's historic residence on Dhanmondi Road No. 32. Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "The demolition of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's historic residence, a symbol of heroic resistance against occupation and oppression, is deeply regrettable."
The Bangladesh government has described India's statement as 'unexpected' and 'unwelcome'. Foreign Ministry spokesman Rafiqul Alam said, "We have seen various adverse situations arising in the neighboring country. But Bangladesh does not officially comment on the internal affairs of any state. Bangladesh expects similar behavior from others."
It is worth noting that house number 32 in Dhanmondi holds special significance in the history of Bangladesh's independence struggle. The recent demolition of this house has been the subject of discussion and criticism across the country.
