The Rangamati Hill District Council authorities are going to close the zoo in the tourist town of Rangamati, which has been neglected for a long time, and build a residential school and college there. The Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry will initially allocate Tk 3 crore for the construction of this school and college, which will be built to provide a good education to the talented boys and girls of the poor community in the hills.

This residential school and college, including the residential institutions, will be managed by the Rangamati Hill District Council. The foundation stone of this school and college was laid by Supradeep Chakma, Advisor to the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, on Sunday (February 9) morning.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Rangamati District Council Chairman Kajal Talukder, Rangamati University of Science and Technology Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Atiar Rahman, Rangamati District Council Chief Executive Officer Khandaker Muhammad Rizaul Karim, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Habibullah, Police Superintendent Dr. SM Farhad Hossain, Rangamati Sadar Zone Commander Ershad Chowdhury, District BNP President Dipan Talukder, General Secretary Advocate Mamunur Rashid Mamun, District Jamaat Ameer Abdul Alim, Rangamati District Council members, anti-discrimination student leaders and senior administration officials.
At that time, the Hill Advisor said, "This area has been kept so dry. We have many recreational areas. BKSP will come here. I am working on BKSP. I don't know if it is being said in advance."
We have schools of different levels of the army here, we need schools of that type. I will propose one for boys and one for girls. We need more schools. My first agenda in this residential school and college is 'quality education'.
When I was the chairman of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board, I said that quality education is very essential. We don't have Notre Dame College, Viqarunnisa College, or Dhaka College here. The university has provided one, which is good. But even then, the Basic Foundation is necessary.
That's why I want to start this school. I would say that if possible, it should be an English curriculum, not an English medium. Except for Bengali, all other subjects should be taught in English and they should be competitive.
It is worth noting that the Botanical Garden and Mini Zoo were built in Rangapani Sukhinil Ganj in Rangamati city in 2000. Due to the lack of skilled manpower in animal husbandry and treatment, the animals in the zoo had been dying since the beginning.
On February 4 of this month, wildlife and biodiversity conservation officials arrived at the mini zoo in Sukhni Nilganj and, with the help of the local forest department, took 19 animals, including a dead bear, from the zoo.
