Chapainawabganj Correspondent:
A long march and social gathering are being held in Chapainawabganj to pray for the forgiveness of the souls of all the martyrs killed in firing by Indian forces on the border, including Felani, and to demand a fair share of Farakka's water.
A cow was slaughtered and a feast was organized at the Government Model High School in Shibganj Upazila of Chapainawabganj on Sunday (February 9) morning. Various events were held there throughout the day under the banner of the people of Bangladesh.
On Saturday (February 8) night, about 500 members of the Bangladesh Janaban movement marched from the central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka and reached Shibganj Model Government High School in Chapainawabganj at around 11:30 am. An organization called Bangladesh Janaban organized the march and social gathering.
During this time, participants in the long march and social gatherings started chanting various slogans including "We have not forgotten you, people, stop the Indian aggression," "We must stop the killing on the border," "Eat more cows to stop the aggression," "Delhi or Dhaka, Dhaka, Dhaka," and "Beware, Indian brokers."
Abdul Majid, a resident of Kaliganj border in Binodpur union, who came to participate in the banquet, said, "On January 5, 6 and 18, Indians carried out aggression in the Kaliganj border area. This anti-aggression activity was resisted by the locals. And a program has been organized here for those who participated in this anti-Indian aggression activity. That is why we have come here and we feel good about coming to this program because this program is organized to encourage and motivate us."
Tarique Rahman, the member secretary of the Aam Janata Party, said, cows were slaughtered in Bogra against the oppression of the Hindu king. And this banquet was common since long ago. India oppressed Bangladesh and Muslims through its cow politics. Our banquet is a protest against that. Cows are slaughtered as part of our activities, after which there will be discussions and talks with the citizens. Besides, we will fly lanterns in the name of those who were killed on the border this evening. In honor of the martyrs, we will fly lanterns with their names written in the sky.
