Shariatpur Correspondent,
An influential group has been accused of attempting to seize land in Jajira, Shariatpur, by defying a court order.
According to local and police sources, Seema Akhter purchased 28 percent of the land in BRS 619 of BRS 55 Khatian of Jayasagar Mouza No. 24 in Arachandi area under Jajira Upazila from multiple donors six months ago and took possession of it from the land owners. Later, when Seema Akhter went to construct a structure on that land, Suruj Sardar and his son Akash Sardar of Mulna area opposed it. They claimed that the land was theirs. Both parties approached the court regarding this. Later, Seema Akhter applied for a stability order (Section 144/145) in the court to further investigate to confirm the ownership of the land and to prevent Suruj Sardar from using his influence to illegally occupy it. In that context, the court issued a stability order on that land. So that no one from the two parties could destroy peace and order by occupying that land. The police went there and informed both parties that neither party would be able to carry out any kind of activity or use the land until the investigation was completed. But Suruj Sardar and his son Akash Sardar, defying the court's ban, are occasionally trying to build structures on the land at night. In continuation of this, an attempt was made to build a house on the land in the dark of night last Friday (February 7). Later, when the locals informed Seema Akhter, her husband Mahbubur Rahman approached the police. Later, when the police went there, the people who came to build the house ran away.
Speaking to several local people, it is learned that Suruj Sardar is an influential person in the area and is also quite financially well-off. Therefore, he is trying to take possession of the land through various means with the help of people.
A local person, who did not wish to be named, said that last Friday night, Suruj Sardar's son Akash Sardar hired people to build a house on the land under cover of night. Everyone fled when the police arrived.
Mahbubur Rahman, husband of victim Seema Akter, said, "We have gone to court. We will accept whatever verdict the court gives us. But Suruj Sardar and his son are not paying any attention to the court's instructions. They are constantly trying to illegally occupy the land. I feel very helpless."
When we went to Suruj Sardar's house to inquire about the allegations, he and his son Akash Sardar could not be found. We tried to contact them on their mobile phones, but they could not be reached.
Jajira Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Kaikobad, the officer responsible for maintaining the status quo, said, "After the court issued a stability order, I informed both sides. But even then, Suruj Sardar Gang is trying to occupy the land by defying it. When I got the news, I went immediately and could not find them. So I cannot be sure who is doing this. If I can identify them after investigating, I will bring them under the law and hand them over to the court."
