The body of a young man has been recovered from the railway tracks in Saidpur, Nilphamari. The incident took place at 8 am on Saturday (February 8) at the Dhelapir railway gate of the upazila. Although it is being called an accident, many believe that he died by suicide or was murdered and dumped.
The deceased has been identified as Rashidul Islam (28). He is the son of Mahabul Islam of Kisamat Kadikhol village in Botlagari Union. He was a sales representative of the British American Tobacco Company and lived with his wife in a rented house in the bus terminal area of Syedpur town.
Mozammel Haque Sarkar, Deputy Assistant Police Officer in charge of Saidpur Railway Police Station, said the accident occurred at 8 am on Saturday. The young man was hit by the Khulna-bound intercity border express train that left Nilphamari.
He further said that before the police arrived, the family members recovered the body and took it to the village home. He had gone to the village home with his wife from the city home at night. The family learned that he had met with an accident on the way to the city in the morning. Since no one in the family had any complaints, arrangements have been made to bury the body.
Meanwhile, according to one source, this is not just an accident. Rather, it could be a case of suicide or murder. Because due to carelessness, the head is not supposed to be separated from the body in an accident. It is unusual for a person to not let their head get caught on the railway track on its own.
Moreover, Rashidul always used a motorcycle due to his job in a cigarette company. But he did not have any vehicle at the scene. There was no incident of his motorcycle being lost. In view of this, it is believed that he committed suicide due to some family problem or was killed and thrown on the railway track.
When Yunus Ali, the uncle of the deceased youth, was contacted on the phone, he said, "It was neither murder nor suicide. Rashidul died in an accident. He had a slight head problem. That's why he couldn't understand when he crossed the railway line. When asked why he didn't take his motorcycle, he didn't answer."
