Two passengers were killed when a bus ran over them on the Sylhet-Sunamganj regional road.
Two passengers in a CNG vehicle were killed when a bus hit a CNG-powered autorickshaw in a head-on collision on the Sylhet-Sunamganj road in Shantiganj on Saturday morning.
The deceased were identified as Jamir Hossain, son of the late Golap Mia of Betganj village in Sunamganj Sadar upazila, and Alinur, son of Firoz Ali of the same village.
Abdur Rashid Sarkar, OC of Joykals Highway Police Outpost in the district, confirmed this information on Saturday.
The OC said that on Saturday morning, a passenger bus leaving from Sunamganj for Sylhet and another CNG-powered autorickshaw leaving from Shantiganj for Sunamganj collided head-on near Ahsan Mara Bridge in Joykals Union of the upazila. Five passengers in the CNG were injured. After the accident, the driver drove the bus at high speed and fled towards Sylhet with the passengers.
Later, Shantiganj Police Station, members of Joykals Highway Police Outpost, and a fire service team reached the spot, rescued the injured and took them to Sunamganj District Sadar Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared the two dead.
