The violence of brokers has increased in the union land offices of Sundarganj Upazila of Gaibandha.
On Tuesday, a visit to the land offices of Dhopadanga, Ramjivan and Sreepur UP in the upazila revealed that the land offices of important state departments are being run by a gang of brokers.
The bosses sleep with oil on their noses, while the office peons, sweepers, and members of the brokers' circle are rummaging through the files of common people's land kept in the office's store room.
Money and business are being conducted on the land documents deposited by ordinary people hoping to receive services.
Not only that, the current officials are the people preferred by the UP Assistant Land Officers.
When talking to a few people hoping to avail the services, Aziz Mia, Bakkar Mia, Phul Mia, Akkas Ali and Barkat Uddin said that the UP land offices in Sundarganj are full of brokers and that they have to pay cash whenever they go to avail any service.
They also said that the office peons, sweepers, and members of the brokers' gang have started a large-scale money trade by evading taxes, invoices, or rent.
In this regard, Mokhlesur Rahman, Assistant Land Officer of Dhopadanga UP in the upazila, said that there are currently two people working in his office, the rest are working on the master roll, and he is not aware of the irregularities.

The people of Sundarganj found Executive Magistrate Md. Mahmud Al Hasan to be an honest and dedicated official. He solved all the land problems of Sundarganj and freed brokers from the upazila and union land offices.
When he changed stations due to transfer, the government offices once again became a hotbed of brokers.
The interim government has taken strict action against the current lawlessness and corruption.
Even after that, irregularities did not stop at the land offices of Sundarganj Upazila of Gaibandha.
When contacted on the office number of Upazila Assistant Commissioner Land and Executive Magistrate Md. Masudur Rahman regarding irregularities and brokers, he could not be reached.
