Satyajit Das (Moulvibazar Correspondent):
There have been allegations of a bulldozer demolishing a mural of Bangabandhu in Kulaura. Locals have become agitated and angry over several issues, including the Facebook live of the Prime Minister of the previous government, and massive protests have started at the spot. However, although the exact information about this incident is yet to be confirmed, the video has gone viral on social media.
In addition, there have been incidents of vandalism of Bangabandhu murals in Sylhet, Khulna and other areas in recent times. The mural of Bangabandhu installed in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet and at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology was demolished with a bulldozer. The same incident also occurred at the main gate of Khulna University.
In this incident in Kulaura, more than fifty students, including Chhatra Dal members and members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Shamim Ahmed, Nahid, Ibrahim, Arif, Rana, Faiz, and Sakel, led by Tanjil Ahmed, joint convener of Upazila Chhatra Dal, participated in the mural-breaking program. They also demanded respect for Bangabandhu's mural and the country's history.
In protest against such incidents, local people and various political organizations have demanded exemplary punishment so that such incidents do not happen in the future.
Political analysts in Kulaura say;
Some people may express anger or protest due to statements or actions about Sheikh Hasina, but it is difficult to be sure whether this can directly cause the mural to be vandalized. There may be political, social, or other reasons behind the vandalization of the mural of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, but the reaction to Sheikh Hasina's live or other related statements or activities can create tension among some individuals.
Such situations, which can sometimes lead to political or social unrest, are certainly complex and require deeper analysis to understand the full context. However, it is common for violence or protests to erupt due to differences between the political environment and the population of a country, especially during election years.
