The award distribution and closing ceremony of the first inter-school debate competition 2025 under the Nawab Faizunnesa Chowdhurani Memorial Debate Festival organized by the only female student of Jagannath University, Tarqik Parishad, was held today (6 February 2025-Thursday). The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Md. Rezaul Karim, PhD, was present as the chief guest at the event.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Rezaul Karim said in his speech, "Debaters are smart and wise in their lives. Students can hone their talents through debate. The administration is working hard to improve the facilities of JB's only female student hall."
A total of 16 teams participated in this year's debate competition. The final debate was held on the topic 'Parliament believes that gender equality should be mandatory in government institutions worldwide as a condition for foreign aid from donor groups'. In the final, the M Cube Squad team presented their arguments and won the championship, while the opposing team, DHP Legacy Bearer, was defeated. Sheikh Taslima Jahan Moon was awarded the best debater in the competition and Marjana Akhter Ilma was awarded the best debater in the final round.
University Treasurer Professor Dr. Sabina Sharmin, Proctor Professor Dr. Muhammad Tajammul Haque, and Provost of the Student Hall Professor Dr. Anjuman Ara were present as special guests at the event.
Treasurer Dr. Sabina Sharmin said, "Students can improve their reasoning and presentation skills through such competitions. Debate is not just a competition, it makes life easier."
The event was presided over by Sharmin Sultana, President of the Student Hall Debate Council, and moderated by General Secretary Naima Akhter Rita. The event opened a new horizon for the practice of debate culture in the only student hall of Jagannath University.
