A farmer's nearly 2,000 dragon trees were cut down and destroyed by a former enemy in Maheshpur, Jhenaidah.
Opponents. The incident took place on Monday night in the field of Maladharpur village in the upazila. The farmer suffered a loss of 5-6 lakh taka.
Locals said that farmer Idris Ali had cultivated dragon fruit on 20th century land in the Beltola field of the village three years ago. He had also sold some dragon fruit from the garden a few days ago. On Monday night, miscreants cut down all the dragon trees in his garden.
Abu Taher, a farmer from the neighboring land, said that there had been a long-standing dispute over land with the families of Mujibar and Idris of Azampur village. Sometimes they harm each other. Farmers Shahbuddin and Ali Hossain said that there has been a long-standing dispute between Idris and Mujibar over land. No one is resolving it, and every few days they even blame each other. They also said that this is no longer a solution, they are harming themselves by damaging the crops. This issue needs to be resolved.
The affected farmer Idris Ali claims that he has been in a long-standing dispute with Mujibar and his family of Azampur village over the land.

Attempts to contact Mujibar regarding this matter were unsuccessful.
Locals, including the affected farmers, have demanded action against the culprits in this incident.
Expatriate commits suicide in Maheshpur due to debt

An expatriate named Golam Mawla committed suicide by hanging himself in Maheshpur, Jhenaidah, due to debt. Tuesday
Police recovered his body from a tree near the Shibanandpur Eidgah ground in Maheshpur upazila this morning.
He is the son of Musabid Mollah of Kuripol Chairman Para in Natima Union of Probashi Upazila.
Shamim, the nephew of the deceased, said, "My uncle returned home from abroad 7/8 months ago after not getting work."
A lot of money is borrowed. He has also sold land to repay the loan. Still, the loan has not been repaid. That is why for some time now
He became mentally ill. On Tuesday morning, farmers found his body hanging near the Eidgah while going to the field.
When the police were informed, they recovered his body.
Maheshpur Police Station Second Officer SI Asad said the body has been recovered and sent to the Jhenaidah morgue.
A case of accidental death has been registered in the incident.
