The Pallabi Zonal Team of the Mirpur Division of DB Police has arrested freedom fighter Mushfiqur Rahman Khan Hannan (69), a former two-time chairman of Singair Upazila Parishad in Manikganj and a respected member of the district Awami League. The arrested Hannan is from Ghonapara village of Singair municipality in the upazila.
After Hannan was arrested, a revolver, a shotgun, 95 rounds of revolver bullets, and 80 rounds of cartridges were recovered during a raid on his office.
DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed this information on Wednesday (February 5) afternoon. Earlier, Hannan was arrested in a raid at a house on 23/B, Road No. 28 in Dhanmondi on Tuesday (February 4) afternoon.
DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Muhammad Talebur Rahman said that after Hannan was arrested, based on the information given by him, a state-of-the-art NPB revolver 22 bore, 95 rounds of revolver bullets made in Brazil, a 12 bore shotgun made in Italy, 80 rounds of shotgun cartridges, an extra butt of shotgun and two licenses of revolver and shotgun were recovered from his office on the 14th floor of Banglamotor's Planners Tower. He added that - after the arrest, a regular case has been filed against him at Shahbagh Police Station under the Arms Act.
It is worth mentioning that in Singair on February 24, 2013, four cases were filed against leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations in Gobindhal village in which four people were killed in a clash with the police and local villagers. Of these, Hannan is the accused in two cases.
Meanwhile, local leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliates, including Upazila Awami League General Secretary Md. Shahidur Rahman Shahid, have been seen making various posts on social media protesting and condemning the detention of Mushfiqur Rahman Khan Hannan.
In this regard, Singair Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Zahidul Islam Jahangir said, "I am not aware of the arrest of former Upazila Parishad Chairman Mushfiqur Rahman Khan Hannan."
