A fine of 1 lakh 50 thousand taka has been imposed on Sajeeb Debnath of Brindavanpur area in Dharmapur area of Rahimpur union of Kamalganj upazila in Moulvibazar due to illegal extraction of sand from an unlicensed place of the Dhalai river. On Tuesday (February 04) afternoon, a virtual court led by Kamalganj Upazila Executive Officer Makhon Chandra Sutradhar conducted a fine of 1 lakh 50 thousand taka on Sajeeb Debnath of Brindavanpur area and Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) DM Sadiq Al Shafin. Confirming the matter of the operation, Upazila Executive Officer Makhon Chandra Sutradhar said that a fine of 1 lakh 50 thousand taka was collected for illegal extraction of sand from an unlicensed place of the Dhalai river in Dharmapur area. He also said that the operation against illegal sand extraction will continue.
It is learned that an influential syndicate has been illegally extracting sand from the Dharmapur area of Rahimpur Union of the upazila for a long time using dredger machines. This influential syndicate is profiting by illegally extracting and selling sand, causing the government to lose crores of taka in revenue.
