To bring order on the roads, the buses of 21 companies operating from Abdullahpur to various destinations in the capital will be operated on a ticket counter basis, announced Md. Saiful Alam, general secretary of the Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association.
He said that the ticket counter-based bus operation will be inaugurated next Thursday (February 6). About 2,610 buses will operate on this route. All the buses will be of the same color (pink). No one will be able to board these buses without a ticket. It will not be possible to get on and off the bus randomly.
He made the announcement at a press conference held at the organization's office on Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue in the capital today.
He also said that during the current month, buses plying in Mirpur, Gabtoli, Mohammadpur will be operated through ticket counters. From now on, buses will have to operate through the counter system and passengers will have to collect tickets from specific counters. Buses will not be allowed to stop and passengers will not be allowed to board without specific stops. Passengers will also have to buy tickets from specific counters and board the bus.
Stating that bus drivers and assistants are being trained in operating vehicles on a ticket counter basis, the general secretary of the Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association said, "Training is being given to those involved in passenger transport using the ticket system. In addition, it has been said that transport workers should treat passengers well."
