Kushtia, February 4
The blockade of the Kushtia-Khulna highway, which was ongoing to demand the inauguration of the Jhaaudia police station in Kushtia, has been lifted after 3.5 hours.
The leaders of the Jhaaudia Police Station Implementation Committee decided to lift the blockade after Kushtia Additional Superintendent of Police Palash Kanti Nath arrived and assured a formal discussion on the matter on February 10. After that, vehicle movement returned to normal on the Kushtia-Khulna National Highway.
Member Secretary of Jhaaudia Police Station Implementation Committee Md. Hayat Ali said, "The Superintendent of Police has called a meeting on the 10th to discuss how to implement the police station. They have assured us of establishing the police station. In view of this, we have postponed the program until the 10th."
Kushtia Additional Superintendent of Police Palash Kanti Nath said, "Locals blocked the road in the Bhartipara Bazar area of Kushtia Sadar Upazila demanding the inauguration of Jhaaudia Police Station. We reached the spot and spoke to the leaders of the police station implementation committee and assured them of a formal discussion on the issue on February 10, but the protesters withdrew the blockade."
Earlier, at 9 am, thousands of people from Jhaaudia and six surrounding unions blocked the Kushtia-Khulna highway by burning tires and throwing tree trunks on the road in the Bittipara area of the Kushtia-Khulna highway. They kept raising various slogans demanding the immediate inauguration of the police station. This created a traffic jam of about 20 kilometers on both sides of the road. As a result, passengers on this road suffered greatly.
