Lalmohammed Kibria: One person was killed and five others were injured in a mob lynching on suspicion of cow theft in Nakla, Sherpur. The incident took place on the Dhaka-Sherpur Regional Bypass Highway in front of Abul Kalam's house in Dakshin (Maora) Mohalla of Nakla Municipality on Sunday (February 2) night.
Those killed and injured in the mob lynching are: Moslem Uddin (45), son of Naim Uddin, of Sandhyakura and Gomra villages of Nalkura union in Jhenaigati upazila of Sherpur,
Amir Hossain (30), son of Nur Mohammad, Aji Rahman (19), son of Joynal Abedin, Raju Miah (25), son of Suruj Miah, Aynal Haque (35), son of Abul Hossain, and Saddam Miah (30), son of Shahjahan. Police and local residents said that the six people came to the spot in a pickup van at around 9:30 pm and were roaming around. At that time, the villagers thrashed them on suspicion of cow theft.
Everyone was seriously injured.
Upon receiving the information, the police rescued the injured from the scene and admitted them to the Upazila Health Complex. Moslem Uddin died while undergoing treatment there, while the others were shifted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital in critical condition for better treatment.
Confirming the incident, Nakla Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Habibur Rahman said, "Upon receiving information about the mob beating, six people were rescued from the scene and admitted to the health complex. Moslem Uddin later died at around 1:30 am."
As the condition was critical, others were transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment on Monday morning.
Moslem Uddin's body has been recovered and sent to Sherpur District Headquarters Hospital morgue for autopsy. Further legal action is under process in this regard.
