Lakshmipur District Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Md. Rezaul Haque inspected the scene and confirmed this information around 10 pm.
The injured in the attack were Daily Khabarer Kagoj's district correspondent Rafiqul Islam, Amar Barta correspondent Abdul Malek Nirob, Chandraganj Press Club's general secretary Md. Alauddin and publicity secretary Faisal Mahmud.
The injured have been admitted to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital. The injured journalists said that due to a land dispute, an incident of encroachment and attack on an expatriate's house in Dattapara village took place. On the way to the spot, 8-10 masked men stopped their motorcycle and asked them to leave without collecting news. When the journalists tried to go forward without obeying them, they were held hostage and beaten with bamboo sticks at gunpoint.
Rafiqul Islam said, "The attackers were wearing masks. They attacked and shot us with the intention of killing us. However, their shots missed the target. During the attack, they also took our mobile phones and money, along with our wallets."
Sadar Hospital doctor Kamala Sheesh Roy said, "The injured are being treated at the hospital. One of them has injury marks on his knee. Whether it is a gunshot wound or not, can be confirmed after the examination."
Jahangir Alam, Inspector (Investigation) of the Dattapara Police Investigation Center, said, "We went to the spot after receiving the news. No one was found there. It is not yet confirmed who carried out the attack and why."
The district's Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Md. Rezaul Haque said, "The police are working on the matter. The injured are being treated in the hospital."
