A human chain program has been held demanding that identity cards be verified using fingerprints, not photos, to fulfill the fundamental rights of veiled women, while preserving their religious and privacy rights, not their appearance.
On Monday (February 3) morning, a women's organization called District Women's Anjuman held a human chain program in front of the election office.
At the end of the human chain, a memorandum was submitted to District Election Officer Muhammad Aminur Rahman Mia.
District Women's Anjuman convener Ahmed Umme Kulsum, Ahmed Ayesha, Ahmed Faria, Ahmed Shahana and Ahmed Shahida, among others, spoke at the human chain.
The veiled women in the human chain said that the privacy of veiled women is being violated by taking photos in front of strangers, such as during admission to schools, colleges, madrasas or all educational institutions, during examination halls or exams, during the issuance of national identity cards, marriage, purchase and sale of land, obtaining or accepting loans from banks or financial institutions, performing the holy Hajj-Umrah, accepting jobs or while obtaining passports and visas to travel abroad for any reason.
They also said that in this situation, they demanded that fingerprints be introduced in all cases to protect women's veils, by removing photos or canceling the old system. Veiled women from districts, upazilas and police stations were present in the human chain.
