Humayun Kabir Miraj: An old man named Abu Taleb (60) has been accused of raping a physically disabled girl (14) in Sharsha, Jessore, and becoming one and a half months pregnant.
Later, to cover up the incident, the pregnant teenager was even forced to have an abortion.
The girl's mother filed a case with Sharsha Police Station on Sunday (February 2) regarding this incident. Case No. 3.
The rapist, Abu Taleb, is the son-in-law of the village and the son of the deceased Abdul Aziz of Basatpur Colony village in the same upazila.
According to the case, the raped girl from Harichandrapur village of Goga union in the upazila was mentally and physically disabled since birth. She often went to the house of her neighbor Abu Taleb. Taking this opportunity, on December 15, 2024, the old man Abu Taleb fed her sweets and had physical relations with her. As a result, she became pregnant. The girl's father reported the matter to the local elders. Instead of taking action, they intimidated the girl's family and had her aborted through Mina, the wife of rural doctor Reza, the owner of Shobha Dental Care in Goga Bazar. When she did not report the matter, the Sharsha police station provided legal assistance to the girl's family, and the girl's mother went to the police station to file a case.
The girl's mother said that her daughter used to have regular menstruation, but suddenly her menstruation stopped for a month and a half. Later, when she became suspicious, she took a test and found out that she was pregnant. Later, when she asked her daughter about it, her daughter tried to tell her about it, but she did not understand at first. Later, her daughter cried when she said Taleb Dada's name. Then her daughter said that Taleb Dada had raped her several times.
The girl's mother said that when she informed the area's leading village doctor, Mahabur Rahman Banya, he advised her to get an abortion. After the abortion, I was in trouble. Later, no one was taking any action. Later, when the OC of Sharsha Police Station visited our house and advised us to file a case, we went to the police station and filed a case.
Sharsha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rabiul Islam said that based on the initial investigation into the rape, which resulted in a one-and-a-half-month pregnancy and abortion, a case has been filed under Sections 9/1 of the Women and Child Abuse Act and 313 of the Penal Code. The police have launched a drive to arrest the rapist.
