Elon Musk says USAID officials should 'die' as agency 'dies' Amid reports that two top security officials at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) were denied access to classified documents by its representatives, Elon Musk has said they should 'die'.
Musk, appointed by US President Donald Trump to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), on Monday branded USAID a “criminal organization” after security officials allegedly denied members of his spending reduction task force access to a restricted area of the agency’s headquarters in Washington, DC.
It's time to die," Musk wrote on his social media platform X. Citing unnamed US media outlets, multiple US media outlets reported that USAID's security director, John Voorhees, and his deputy, Brian McGill, have been placed on leave due to lack of security clearance.
Representatives from the DOGE, which was created by an executive order from Trump but is not a government department, were finally able to access areas with classified information after the clash, which was first reported by CNN, according to multiple reports.
White House communications director Steven Cheung denied that DOGE personnel attempted to gain access to the secure area, calling a PBS report about the incident “fake news” and “not even remotely true.”
“How serious and unbelievable the media is,” Cheung said in a post on X. However, Katie Miller, who serves on the DOGE, appeared to acknowledge the task force’s intrusion attempts, writing on X that “no classified material was accessed without proper security clearance.”
