The UK's National Crime Agency (NCA) has launched an investigation into the country's former Minister for Cities and Anti-Corruption Tulip Siddique. As part of the investigation, NCA detectives recently visited Dhaka for a secret meeting with the Bangladesh Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the British media outlet Daily Mail reported.
Former Treasury Minister Tulip Siddique, along with her mother Sheikh Rehana and aunt Sheikh Hasina, and four members of her family are accused of embezzling £3.9 billion ($5 billion) from the Rooppur nuclear power plant project. The plant was built by Russia's state-owned Rosatom, which financed 90 percent of it. Tulip Siddique was seen standing next to Vladimir Putin when the contract for the project was signed in 2013.

Tulip Siddique resigned from her Labour Party post last month after the allegations surfaced. However, she denied the allegations. She claimed that there was no evidence against her. The Labour Party says that no evidence has been presented against Tulip Siddique. However, the NCA and the British Home Office declined to comment on the matter.
