The much-awaited Noakhali District BNP Convening Committee has been announced. After going through various ups and downs, all the speculations and speculations have come to an end with the announcement of the desired District BNP Convening Committee. A 5-member committee was formed with Mahbub Alamgir Alo as the convener and Harun Or Rashid Azad as the member-secretary.
The committee was announced in a press release signed by central BNP joint secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed on Sunday (February 2). The committee has former senior vice-president of Noakhali district BNP, president of Subarnachar Upazila BNP, former Subarnachar Upazila chairman and most-time elected president of Noakhali district bar, Advocate ABM Zakaria, as senior joint convener, while the members are former president of the recently dissolved Noakhali district BNP, Golam Haider BSC, and former general secretary of Noakhali district BNP, Advocate Abdur Rahman.
For a long time, the political arena had been bustling with the prospect of heat centered around this committee in Noakhali district BNP politics.
Mahbub Alamgir is a seasoned politician in the politics of Alo district BNP. In his long political life, the amount of gain was less than the sacrifices. After leaving the central BNP politics in Dhaka, he became involved in the politics of his own district Noakhali. While still a school student in 1977, he joined Chhatra Dal during the Yes/No vote of martyred President Ziaur Rahman. Then, while studying in college, he was the president of Sonapur College Chhatra Dal. He was the convener of Noakhali district Chhatra Dal and at that time he held VP elections from Noakhali Government College. While being the convener of the district Chhatra Dal, he became a member of the Chhatra Dal central committee. He was a member of the central Chhatra Dal (Dudu-Ripon Parishad). He was the co-secretary of the central Chhatra Dal (Jalal Bablu Parishad). Then, he became the 8th member of the 11-member convening committee of the central Chhatra Dal along with DUCSU VP Aman Ullah Aman and was the vice-president of the full committee. He was the organizing secretary of the Chittagong division of the Central Youth Dal (Abbas-Gayeswar) committee. Then he became the special secretary of the Central Committee (Bulu-Alal) committee of the Youth Dal. He was the president of the Noakhali District Youth Dal. He was the general secretary of Sudharam Thana BNP. He served as the general secretary of the Noakhali District BNP. He also served as the general secretary of the party's anti-fascist government movement at various times during the party's difficult times. He was persecuted many times in his struggling life. He spent his time wandering from court to court in prison, torture, and false cases. The leaders and activists said that he was a worthy claimant to the post of convener. For this reason, the leaders and activists expressed their satisfaction at getting the responsibility of the district BNP convener and distributed sweets with excitement.
On the other hand, Harun Or Rashid Azad, who was appointed as the member secretary, is an experienced politician. He has many successful memories in his colorful political life. His political life started with student politics. He served as the president of the district Chhatra Dal. Since then, his political life has risen, he served as the president of Noakhali Municipality BNP several times. Then he served as the general secretary of Noakhali District BNP. This leader, who was at the peak of popularity, was elected mayor of Noakhali Municipality while he was the general secretary of the district BNP. As a popular leader, he was elected mayor twice. Later, during the Awami League government, Awami League candidate Shahidullah Khan Sohel forcibly snatched his victory in the municipal elections.
It is worth mentioning that earlier, in 2016, Advocate Abdur Rahman was declared the president of the district BNP and Mahbub Alamgir Alo the general secretary through the council. Less than two months after the term of that committee, a new committee was formed. Where Golam Haider BSC was made the president and Advocate Abdur Rahman was made the general secretary. Since that 2016, no more councils have been held till date. Harun Or Rashid Azad was an influential candidate as the president candidate in the 2016 council. Since he was not declared the president in that council, party conflicts have reared their heads in the politics of the district BNP. After being somewhat inactive in politics since the 2016 council, Harun Or Rashid Azad, who has no title, has returned to the district BNP committee as a member secretary after a long nine years.
Meanwhile, it is now a matter of seeing how much heat will spread in the political arena due to the new calculations and new polarization. However, for a long time, there have been rumors of Harun-ur-Rashid Azad's followers splitting around the district BNP committee and there has been a fear of spreading heat in the political arena, but all the senior leaders at the district level have been able to control it very tightly. All the leaders of the newly formed convening committee urged the party leaders and activists to follow the central instructions, forget their differences, unite and work for the country and the party in an orderly manner.
