Popular film director, producer, and actor Ustad Jahangir Alam has been awarded the Vista Aux Presents Iconic Award for Lifetime Achievement at a ceremony organized by the Bangladesh Tourism Development Center.
He was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Travel and Tourism Festival-2025 and Travel and Tourism Iconic Award presentation ceremony on February 27 at the Cox's Bazar Kalatali Ustad Jahangir Resort Auditorium, organized by the Bangladesh Tourism Development Center in collaboration with the Global Aviation and Tourism Journalists Association.
The chief guest of the event was former Honorable Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia's personal photographer, NTV Director Alhaj Md. Nuruddin Ahmed, special guest Dhaka University Professor Dr. Hamida Khanam, film actress Masuda Nasrin Raka, member secretary of the event celebration committee Hafiz Rahman and executive editor of Dainik Ganokanth Salam Mahmud presented the lifetime achievement award to Ustad Jahangir Alam. Ustad Jahangir Alam was awarded the TRAB Lifetime Achievement Award by the Television Reporters Unity of Bangladesh TRAB at the Intercontinental Crystal Ballroom in Dhaka on January 30 and was awarded the BABISAS Award at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) ATN Bangla Auditorium on February 22. He has previously received many awards for film directing and acting, including the BASSAS Award by the Bangladesh Film Journalists Association (BFFS), the BCRA Award by the Bangladesh Cultural Reporters Association, the Judge Bhuiyan Group-Ejahikaf Award by the Asian Journalists Human Rights and Cultural Foundation (Ejahikaf), and the SAARC Global Award by the SAARC Journalists Association.
Jahangir Alam learned martial arts since childhood. He joined the film industry as a fight director in the early eighties. He introduced a new trend in Dhaka cinema. The title 'Ustad' was added before his name. He trained many heroes including Sohel Rana and Rubel. At one point, he also joined acting. He started with villainous roles. Later, at the request of his fans, he debuted as a hero. He gained immense popularity by doing films like Karate Master, Fighter, Master Samurai, Professional Killer, Kung Fu Kanya, Kung Fu Nayak, Ustad Sagared, and Priya Rangbaaz.
When pornography became prevalent in films later in 2000, he gradually moved away from the film industry. However, he has a desire to return to films again.
Meanwhile, he has started a resort business in the tourist city of Cox's Bazar. He has built this resort named 'Ustad Jahangir' at the foot of the hill on the road from Kalatoli to Marine Drive. The actor is looking after the resort himself with his wife, former Miss Bangladesh and film heroine Raka. His younger brother, film director MA Rahim, is with him.
Ustad Jahangir Alam is a resident of Cox's Bazar by family. He had to spend the golden years of his life in Dhaka due to his involvement in films. However, he had always planned to do something in Cox's Bazar. He got involved in the resort business out of that desire.
About nine years ago, Ustad Jahangir Alam built a resort in Cox's Bazar Kalatoli. He has re-started the 'Ustad Jahangir Resort' by decorating it with modern amenities and aesthetics. Behind the new development of this resort is his deep love for films. Ustad Jahangir said, many people come to Cox's Bazar for film shooting. There are all kinds of great locations here. I want not only the general public but also those who come to Cox's Bazar for film work to stay here. I have built it in such a way that producers can use this resort for shooting as well. I want to make this the second branch of FDC in Cox's Bazar.
He also said, "I myself am preparing to return to films. I have already set up a panel here. The name of my new film is 'Digital Love'. Martial arts are being given more importance in the story of the film. I will produce, direct and act myself. I will start shooting the film soon. The film will be shot at my resort. Ustad Jahangir Alam said that 50 percent discount will be given to people associated with the media at his resort throughout the year. A few years ago, Ustad Jahangir Alam founded the Film Star Club. Currently, he has started extensive activities to take the Film Star Club forward.
