Dhaka, 3 March 2025 – Former State Minister for Industries and Chairman of Mohona Television Kamal Ahmed Majumder stood in the courtroom and tearfully asked the judge for justice. At that time, he announced that he would no longer participate in Awami League politics.
He was produced in court on Monday (March 3) morning to show his arrest in a murder case of Kafrul Police Station. The case is related to the anti-discrimination movement. During the hearing, Kamal Ahmed Majumder told the court, “I am 76 years old, 70 percent of my eyes are damaged. I am unable to take care of my family. I will no longer be involved in Awami League politics before I die. I do not hold any position in Awami League, now I am resigning from the primary membership as well.”
Besides, he demanded a digital Quran Sharif and necessary medicines for his treatment in prison. The former state minister said, "No device or medicine is being given to test diabetes in prison. Not even the Holy Quran Sharif is being given. One case after another is being filed and torture is being done. I am being oppressed at this age. I seek help from Allah."
At this point, he broke down in tears. The judge told him, "Apply for all your claims through a lawyer." The judge then granted his request to be shown arrested.
According to the case information, Atiqul Islam was shot behind the BRTA office of Kafrul Police Station in the capital on July 19. He was later declared dead. In this incident, businessman Ahsan Habib filed a murder case with Kafrul Police Station, in which Kamal Ahmed Majumder is the 10th accused.
