There have been allegations of arson attacks on mosques built on Waqf property in Bakerganj, and that hostility has led to the construction of mosques.
The incident occurred in Parshibpur village of Padrishibpur union of the upazila on Sunday morning, 2/3/2025.
Locals said that a fire broke out in the hut of Abdus Sobahan Sikder in the early hours of the morning and the hut was instantly burnt to ashes. On the other hand, trees and branches worth several thousand taka in the vicinity were burnt. At that time, local people reached the spot and brought the fire under control.
Abdullah Al Mamun, son of the victim Abdus Sobahan Sikder, alleged that Sampriti Tara started filling the land with sand to build a mosque on that land with a waqf. When the sand filling was completed, the neighbors Nurul Islam Mallick, Chandu Mallick and Sohag Mallick prevented the construction of the mosque on the said land at around 11:30 am on Saturday, March 1 and attacked and beat them. In this, 3-4 people including his father were injured. He filed a GD with Bakerganj Police Station on Saturday night regarding this incident. GD No.-34. He alleged that due to this, the people of the opposition may set fire to their huts on Sunday morning.
In this regard, Bakerganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Shafiqul Islam said, "The police have inspected the scene. If a complaint is received, legal action will be taken subject to investigation."
