Humayon Kabir Miraj: The copy of the electricity bill distributed in Bagh Anchra, Sharsha Upazila, Jessore still has the slogan of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina—"Sheikh Hasina's initiative, electricity in every home." Even seven months after the change of government, such a campaign has created widespread anger among local consumers.
However, Bagh Anchra Sub-Zonal Office Officer (AGM) Humayun Kabir said that they have four old copies and have delivered the copies of the bills to the customers. He requested them to look into the matter with a positive eye and said that such a mistake will not happen again.
Almost 7 months have passed since the fall of the autocratic Sheikh Hasina government. Although her name has been erased from state, private, and autonomous organizations, it has not been erased from the Baganchra sub-zonal office of Jessore Rural Electricity Association-1, Sharsha. The promotion of Sheikh Hasina's name is still ongoing. And it is being delivered to the doorsteps of the customers.
The investigation revealed that there are about 45,000 customers under the Baganchra sub-zonal office of Jessore Palli Bidyut Samity-1 in Sharsha Upazila. When the country of the mass movement of students and the public became independent, the name of Sheikh Hasina, plaques and pictures hung all over the country were removed. But the slogan of Sheikh Hasina on the electricity bill of the Baganchra sub-zonal office of Jessore Palli Bidyut Samity-1 has not been removed yet. Sheikh Hasina's campaign message is still being carried on the bill. It is still visible on the bill paper of January-February 2025.
There is anger, discussion, and criticism about this among local rural electricity customers as well as various political circles.
Electricity consumer and Baganchra Union BNP General Secretary Jahangir Hossain said, "Even though seven months have passed since the fall of the autocratic fascist Hasina, her name and slogan are in the electricity bill. Which is very sad for this nation. Even though they have fled, their cronies are still busy promoting Hasina's name. This is not desirable under any circumstances. The authorities should rectify this soon. Those who are present in the AGM of this office may be a support group for autocratic Hasina. Or they have campaigned due to irresponsibility. A dictator has been dismissed. But why is Palli Vidyut doing this, which is not desirable. Senior officials of Palli Vidyut should take action against the AGM of this office immediately."
A customer named Abdullah said, "Even though the name of dictator Hasina has been removed from all places in the country, her name is still on the electricity bill paper. How can a government office make a mistake? Action should be taken against those responsible for this."
Another customer, teacher Hafizur Rahman, said he was surprised to see Sheikh Hasina's name on the electricity bill. Her name and picture have been removed from all places in the country for 6/7 months. But her slogan is still on the bill paper. Why hasn't it been removed? We, the customers, want the name of a fascist student who killed the crowd to remain.
In this regard, Engineering Harinandra Nath Barman, GM of Jessore Palli Bidyut Samity-1, said, "A copy of the bill containing this slogan should not be given. I have sent a new copy. If the previous copy has been given, then administrative action will definitely be taken against the AGM of that sub-zonal office."
