Executive Engineer of Satkhira Public Health Engineering Department Md. Shahidul Islam is still in office despite being ordered to be transferred to Kushtia. What is the source of this power? Even after being transferred on February 17, he is still in office in Satkhira.
Investigation revealed that 14 package tenders were recently invited under the Samagra Desh project. Out of these, four packages of pipeline scheme worth 15 crore taka are ongoing and Md. Shahidul Islam wants to complete this process. The package numbers are 1071078, 1071119, 1071171 and 1071149.
It has been alleged that everything has been finalized to get these works to two contractors and a contract of 1 crore taka has been signed with them. Due to which a group has started to prevent the transfer of Shahidul Islam. They are trying to get Shahidul Islam to complete the tender process of 15 crore taka from Satkhira for at least a few more days. It is also known that these tenders are being given at a rate of 20% higher than the actual price and Shahidul Islam will get this 20%.
Shahidul Islam was accused of various irregularities and corruption, including the awarding of tenders worth around two billion taka. Due to this, on February 17, he was ordered to be transferred in a notification signed by Ashfiqun Nahar, Deputy Secretary of the Local Government Department.
According to media reports, the Satkhira office of the Public Health Engineering Department was taken hostage due to Md. Shahidul Islam's massive tender rigging and irregularities.
Shahidul Islam, a resident of Kashiani Upazila of Gopalganj district, without paying any attention to any rules and laws, gave work to some contracting companies of his choice during the previous government's tenure. Among the companies that got work were his own and his relatives' companies. Moreover, there were allegations against him of selecting contractors in exchange for a large sum of money. Due to which, the concerned quarters believe that about two hundred crore taka of the Public Health Engineering Department of Satkhira has been embezzled.
According to media reports, Shahidul Islam has amassed a huge fortune through tender rigging and corruption. He has a 5-storey house in the New Market area of Jessore, 8/10 plots and several bighas of land in Jessore town. In addition, he has properties in Kashiani and various other places in Gopalganj district in his name and name.
There are also allegations against him that he took a job under the freedom fighter quota with a fake certificate. In 2012, his father's name was not in the freedom fighter gazette, but he took a job under the freedom fighter quota. His father's gazette was published in 2016. There are also allegations about his academic certificates. He joined the post of assistant engineer by collecting certificates from a private institution in exchange for a large sum of money.
Although Shahidul Islam called his mobile phone several times to inquire about this, he did not answer.
