Keeping in mind the theme of "Safe Roads, Safe Life", a human chain was held by the Nazirpur Development Council and local residents to demand road repairs in Nazirpur, Pirojpur.
On Sunday (March 2) at 10 am, they formed an hour-long human chain in front of the Upazila Parishad demanding safe roads and repairs to impassable roads in front of Nazirpur Upazila.
In separate speeches at the human chain, speakers said that former MP of Pirojpur 1 constituency and former minister Sh.M. Rezaul Karim and former MP of Pirojpur 2 constituency Mohiuddin Maharaj and their brothers have embezzled crores of taka in the name of development of the area. In particular, they have embezzled about 150 crore taka without completing the road work from Nazirpur to Baithakata, Nazirpur Chauthai Mahal bus stand to Baburhat (Khejurtola) market.
He strongly demanded that all these money launderers be brought to justice immediately, and humbly requested a new budget to alleviate all these public sufferings.
The roads in the area have been unusable for a long time. Even though the previous government was in power for 15 years, there has been no development of the roads in the 9 unions. The speakers in the human chain and protest rally highlighted the various problems of the neglected roads and said, "We have given the government a three-month deadline, if the road is not constructed or renovated within this time, we will be forced to protest again." They immediately drew the attention of the current government and demanded that these neglected roads be renovated as soon as possible.
Locals and political leaders participated in the human chain. The leaders said that this road needs to be repaired and paved immediately. Thousands of pedestrians travel on this road every day. During the rainy season, all roads become death traps.
The human chain was addressed by former upazila chairman of Nazirpur upazila, former president of upazila BNP and vice-president of district BNP Nazrul Islam Khan, Pirojpur district BNP member Hirowar Hossain Molla, former general secretary of Nazirpur upazila BNP and current joint general secretary of upazila BNP Rezaul Karim Liton, organizing secretary Alamgir Hossain, general secretary of Nazirpur upazila Krishak Dal Milton Majhi, upazila convener of Swechchhasebak Dal Belayet Majhi, president of Matibhanga Union of Nazirpur upazila Safayet Hossain Shahin Sardar. In addition, leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliates, including students and students of various educational institutions, gathered thousands of people from the area.
