Police have arrested five Awami League leaders in Pirojpur after they appeared before a lower court after receiving anticipatory bail from the High Court in a political case. They were arrested from the premises of the Pirojpur District and Sessions Judge's Court on Sunday afternoon.
The arrested are Shahidul Haque Khan Panna, Public Prosecutor (GP) at Pirojpur District and Sessions Judge Court, Khan Md. Alauddin, Vice President of District Awami League and former Public Prosecutor (PP) of Pirojpur District and Sessions Judge Court, Sheikh Firoz Ahmed, Organizing Secretary of District Awami League, Irtiza Hasan Raju, former President of Chhatra League, and Adv. Matiur Rahman, former Chairman of Indurkani Upazila of Pirojpur and President of Upazila Awami League.
According to police sources, the accused came to the Pirojpur District and Sessions Judge's Court this afternoon to appear in the lower court after obtaining anticipatory bail from the High Court in a political case. When the appearance was over, the accused, District Awami League Vice President Khan Md. Alauddin, who was facing an arrest warrant in another case, was detained, and the remaining 4 people were arrested on charges of being involved in another sabotage case.
Pirojpur Police Superintendent Khan Muhammad Abu Naser said that five people were arrested from the court premises. One of them is an accused with an arrest warrant and the remaining four were arrested after preliminary evidence was found that they were involved in another sabotage case.
Earlier, upon receiving news that the accused were coming to appear in court, leaders and activists of the district student party led by Salauddin Kumar, organizing secretary of Pirojpur District Student Party, held a protest march in the court premises demanding the arrest of the accused.
