Sadrul Ain:
The 217-member convening committee of the National Citizens Party (NCP) has been approved.
The matter was announced in a message sent by Akhtar Hossain, member secretary of the National Citizens Party, early Sunday (March 2).
It states that in 2024, the citizens of Bangladesh were freed from a fascist regime through an unprecedented bloody uprising by the student population.
However, the first phase of the uprising declared at the Shaheed Minar, namely the abolition of the fascist system and the new political settlement, has not yet been implemented. The people of this town have presented themselves as a political community at various times in history.
As part of the nearly 200-year anti-colonial struggle, we achieved an independent state in 1947 through the Pakistan Movement. But the Pakistani state has failed to embrace and implement the aspirations of the people of this region for social, political, and economic liberation.
The people of this town, yearning for freedom, achieved independence from the Pakistani regime in 1971 through a bloody war of liberation. But after independence, the state structure of Bangladesh, created through the Mujibist constitution enacted in 1972, paved the way for the establishment of undemocratic, authoritarian and fascist rule.
As a result, the citizens of this country have been victims of dictatorship, dictatorship, and most recently fascism at various points in history.
In such a context, to eliminate all elements and structures of fascism from the state structure of Bangladesh and to implement a new political settlement to realize the aspirations of the people of this township for liberation, under the leadership of the anti-discrimination student movement and the initiative of the National Citizens Committee, we, the students and people of Bangladesh, have announced the debut of a new political party called 'National Citizens Party' on February 28, 2025 at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital Dhaka.
Mim Akhter, sister of Shaheed Ismail, one of the brave fighters of the July Uprising, announced the names of Nahid Islam as the convener of the Jatiya Nagorik Party and Akhter Hossain as the member secretary.
