The moon of the holy month of Ramadan has been sighted in the sky of Bangladesh. The fasting month will begin tomorrow (Sunday). Today, religious devotees will offer Tarawih prayers along with Isha prayers. They will eat Sehri in the morning to break the fast.
The decision was announced at a moon sighting committee meeting at the Islamic Foundation meeting room at the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram on Saturday evening. The meeting was presided over by Religious Advisor Dr. AFM Khalid Hossain.
Tonight is the first Tarawih prayer. The office will be open from 9 am to 3:30 pm during the month of Ramadan.
Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims. After this month of abstinence, devout Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.
Meanwhile, fasting has begun in Saudi Arabia today as the moon of the holy month of Ramadan was sighted on Friday evening. Along with Saudi Arabia, fasting has also begun in Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates today. However, as the moon was not sighted in Malaysia and Brunei, the holy fasting will begin in these countries tomorrow, Sunday.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Hijri calendar. The Hijri calendar has 354 or 355 days in a year. Fasting during Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam and is obligatory for all healthy Muslims. However, there are exemptions for young children, the sick, travelers, pregnant, breastfeeding, or menstruating women.
