A thrilling debate competition titled “The Verdict Battle-Season 1” was organized by the Law Club and Moot Court Society of Patuakhali University of Science and Technology (PUST). The competition was held on Friday (February 28) from 4:30 pm to 10 pm at the university's student-teacher conference room.
Present as judges at the time were Assistant Professor Md. Abdur Rahim, Departmental Chairman of the Faculty of Law and Land Administration, and Md. Matiur Rahman, Assistant Judge of the Patuakhali District Judge Court. Numerous students, including the debating team of the Faculty of Law and Land Administration, were present.
Participants engage in heated debates, showcasing their argumentative skills to claim a final verdict.
Filled with intellectual clashes, engaging speeches, and strategic arguments, this competition is a great event for debate enthusiasts.
3 teams from Group 'A' and 3 teams from Group 'B' (total 6 teams) participated in the debate. The Litigators, Lex Losey and Legal Intellects participated in the debate in Group 'A'. On the other hand, Amicus Curiae, The Moot Masters and Hearse Heroes participated in the debate in Group 'B'. In the parliamentary debate, each team from Group 'A' participated in the debate with two other teams and one team from each group debated a total of two times and on two different motions/topics. 'Lex Losey' from Group 'A' defeated The Litigators and Legal Intellects and reached the final round. 'Amicus Curiae' defeated The Moot Masters and Hearse Heroes from Group 'B' in a similar manner and reached the final round.
The speaker of the parliamentary debate was Nurunnabi Sohan, a sixth-semester student of the Faculty of Law and Land Administration, and the timekeepers were Leah, a fourth-semester student, and Shahed Mahmud, a sixth-semester student. The mentor of the 'A' group, The Litigators, was Saidur Rahman, the mentor of the Lex Losi team was Sabbir Ahmed, and the mentor of the Team Legal Intellects was S. M. Omar. The mentor of the first group, Amicus Curia, of the 'B' group was Ibrahim Ibu, the mentor of the Moot Masters, Taufiq Omar, and the mentor of the Hearse Heroes team was Sadia Haque Raisa.
When asked about the debate competition, Sadia Haque Raisa, mentor of the Hearse Heroes team, said, "We had a very wonderful event as the first debate event of our Law Club. The participation of the new students was especially remarkable. Every member of my team is the most junior. As first semester students, their effort and performance were very impressive. Best wishes to everyone and many thanks to the Law Club and Moot Court Society for organizing such a wonderful event."
Legal Intellects team leader Mosaddek Hossain Jihad said, "This is my first debate competition after coming to campus. I was nervous from the beginning. I hope we will get the opportunity to participate in such competitions regularly."
