200 BNP-Jamaat members acquitted in Narail sabotage case. The court has acquitted 200 accused in the chargesheet filed in the case related to the clash between BNP-Jamaat leaders and activists with the police at Ghorakhali intersection in Narail Municipality on December 11, 2013. Ujjwal Roy, district representative from Narail, said that Narail Chief Judicial Magistrate Hadiuzzaman gave the verdict on Thursday (February 27) afternoon.
The court's Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Advocate Azizul Islam confirmed the matter to Dhaka Mail.
Notable people acquitted in the verdict are: District BNP General Secretary Monirul Islam, District BNP Senior Vice President and former Mayor of Narail Municipality Zulfikar Ali Mandal, Narail District BNP Organizing Secretary Shahriar Rizvi George, Sadar Upazila BNP General Secretary Mujahidur Rahman Palash, Municipal BNP General Secretary Khandaker Fashiar Rahman, District Jubo Dal Organizing Secretary Shihabur Rahman Shihab, Jamaat leaders Oliar Rahman and Shariful Islam Beg.
According to the case, on December 11, 2013, leaders and activists of the district BNP and Jamaat took out a protest procession in support of the strike at Ghorakhali intersection in Narail Municipality. At that time, when the police stopped them, a bloody clash broke out. Many people from both sides were seriously injured in the clash that lasted for several hours.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Atiquzzaman filed a case with Narail Sadar Police Station on December 11, 2013. In this case, 78 people were named and 2,500 to 3,000 unknown people were named as accused. After investigation, the case was dismissed on December 7, 2016.
Sadar Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Shekhar Chandra Mallick filed a chargesheet in court in August accusing 200 people.
