Terrorist attacks, vandalism, and looting have been carried out in such a film-like manner that helpless families now have no choice but to spend the night standing on the streets in nothing but the clothes they wear.
A horrific attack, vandalism and looting of an expatriate's house in broad daylight in Maijdi, Noakhali Sadar has taken place. The attackers did not stop at just vandalizing and looting the house. As they left, they scattered all the furniture in the pond and on the road.
The incident took place on Friday afternoon in Krishnarampur village, near the board office of Kadir Hanif Union in Sadar Upazila.
Upon receiving information, police and army personnel reached the spot and arrested one person. The rest fled.
Police and eyewitnesses said that Nurul Afsar Sumon (45), a Saudi expatriate son of the deceased Hamid Ulya of Krishnarampur village, and Shah Alam's two sons Alamgir (35) and Jahangir (37) of the same area have been in a dispute over land. Several arbitration meetings have been held locally to resolve the matter. In the past few days, Alamgir, an accused in multiple cases, has been threatening Sumon in various ways after coming out of jail on bail in a case.
On Friday around 5 pm, more than 50 hired terrorists in 6/7 microbuses led by Alamgir and Jahangir suddenly attacked Sumon's house. The armed terrorists broke the gate of the house and entered inside and beat and injured Sumon's wife, mother-in-law and other female family members. At that time, they left the house in fear for their lives. The terrorists destroyed everything in the entire house and looted valuables including cash, gold ornaments. While leaving, they took out everything from the house, including the bed, sofa, mattress, clothes, and pot, and threw it into a nearby pond and on the road.
Sudharam Police Station OC Kamrul Islam said that two police teams were sent to the spot immediately after receiving the news of the attack and vandalism. At the same time, an army patrol team also went there. Alamgir has been arrested from the spot. Legal action will be taken in this incident based on a written complaint.
