Police have arrested 12 people and seized goods in connection with a robbery at Rising Group's Popular Package and Accessories Limited in Saturia, Manikganj.
A joint operation by the District Intelligence Branch (DB) and Saturia Police Station police has recovered looted goods and weapons and equipment used in the robbery.
According to police and factory authorities, on the night of February 8, when the factory employees were sleeping after dinner, at approximately 2:30 am, 20-25 masked robbers climbed over the security wall, broke the lock of the factory's main gate, entered the factory, tied the hands and feet of the factory employees with country-made weapons, and looted dyeing polybags and cash on the finishing floor before fleeing in a pickup truck.
At around 4:20 am, an employee called the factory manager in Dhaka, Md. Saheb Ali, and informed him of the matter, and senior officials of the factory filed a complaint with the police station.
Later, under the direction of Manikganj District Superintendent of Police Mosh. Yasmin Khatun, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Sujan Sarkar and Additional Superintendent of Police (Manikganj Sadar Circle) Salauddin Rabbi, District Detective Branch (DB) OC Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, Saturia Police Station OC Manobendra Balo and OC (Investigation) along with several police members participated.
Sharif was arrested from Chatmohar in Pabna, from whom two stolen mobile phones were recovered. Later, based on the information given by him, Md. Lal Chan (41), Md. Russell alias Alamin (26), Md. Mokaddesh (61), Hridoy Hasan (19), Md. Kausar (26), Md. Jahangir Ali (25), Zahid Hasan (35), Md. Abu Said (50), Swapan Mia (20), Sajedul Sheikh (35) and Liaqat Ali (54) involved in the robbery were arrested from Ashulia area of Dhaka. During this time, two pickups, three knives, chapatis, four cutters, hand gloves, masks and mobile phones used in the robbery were recovered from the arrested persons.
Later, when the arrested persons were presented in court, the accused Liaquat Ali (54) gave a confessional statement.
Saturia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Manobendra Balo said that the case is under investigation. He believes that more information will come out soon.
