Sadrul Ain:
The government will pay 525.46 crore taka as salaries to 33,234 officials and employees of 14 companies laid off by Beximco in the industrial park.
The payment of this salary will start from March 9 and will be completed in the middle of Ramadan, said Labor Advisor Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain.
The Labor Advisor gave this information at a press conference at the Secretariat today (February 27). He said that employees of 14 companies of Beximco Limited will receive salaries until February of this year.
Sakhawat Hossain said that 31,669 workers and 1,565 officials of Beximco's closed factories will be paid 525.46 crore taka. For this, the Finance Department will provide 325.46 crore taka from their operating expenses and the Labor Ministry will provide the remaining 200 crore taka as a loan.
He said, "We are not against any worker. We do not want any worker to lose their job, because they also have families."
The labor advisor said, "Beximco officials and employees will not do anything that will require us to be strict."
The Advisory Council Committee has formed a six-member committee headed by Lutfe Siddiqui, the special envoy of the Chief Advisor, to determine the next steps regarding Beximco's laid-off company in the Industrial Park.
The committee will have one representative each from the Securities and Exchange Commission, Bangladesh Bank, and Attorney General, and the receiver of Beximco as members. The chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) will serve as member secretary to the committee.
In the wake of worker dissatisfaction, the government formed an advisory council committee on November 24, with Labor Advisor Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain as the convener, to review the labor and business conditions of the industrial establishments in the Beximco Industrial Park and make recommendations.
