The political party of the youth, which is to be launched today under the initiative of the National Citizens Committee and the anti-discrimination student movement, has been named 'National Citizens Party' or 'National Citizens Party' (NCP).
The names of Nahid Islam as the party's convener and Akhtar Hossain as the member secretary have been finalized. In addition, the names of the top leaders have been finalized. An executive member of the National Citizens Committee confirmed the matter to the media.
Sources said that initially, there was discussion about naming the new party 'Bangladesh Democratic Citizens' Parliament'. Later, there was discussion about the names 'National Citizens Party' and 'Bangladesh Citizens' Party'.
Finally, the name 'National Citizen Party' was finalized yesterday afternoon. If everything goes well, 'National Citizen Party' will be the new political platform of the youth, which will be launched at a function at 3 pm today at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital.
It is learnt that the first committee of the new party NCP will be a convening committee of 100-150 members. In the meantime, the names of the top leaders of the committee have been finalized through discussions between the National Citizens Committee and the leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Nahid Islam, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, who resigned from his position as an advisor to the interim government on February 25 to take over the party, will be the convener of the new party. Samantha Sharmin, who is serving as the spokesperson for the National Citizens Committee, will remain as the senior joint convener of the new party.
In addition, Nusrat Tabassum, Ariful Islam Adeeb, Sarwar Tushar, Al Amin, Monira Sharmin, and Hasan Ali Khan have been elected as joint conveners.
Akhtar Hossain, former social service secretary of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU), has been nominated as the member secretary of the convening committee. He is also serving as the member secretary of the National Citizens' Committee. Dr. Tasnim Zara will remain as the senior joint member secretary.
The third important position of the committee is 'chief coordinator'. National Citizens' Committee convener Nasiruddin Patwari has been nominated for this position. Abdul Hannan Masud, the chief organizer of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, will be the joint coordinator of the committee.
Two people will serve as the party's chief organizers. They are Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer for the northern region of the country, and Hasnat Abdullah, the chief organizer for the southern region. Both of them were one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement.
Saleh Uddin Sifat will be the office secretary of the new party. The new party's debut ceremony has been organized at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital today. The names of the nominees for the party's top positions will be announced there.
It is learnt that the new committee will lead the party until the next national elections. For this, the size of the party's convening committee will be increased. A draft list of the committee has already been prepared.
In this, frontline fighters who led the July Movement have been given important positions. In addition, it is reported that the discussed female leaders of the July Movement are getting places in the new party.
Meanwhile, preparations for the team's debut event have been in full swing since yesterday morning at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital. Organizers said that there will be a medical team, police booth, washrooms and water facilities at the venue. At the same time, there will be another booth for girls backstage.
There will also be special arrangements for VIPs. The family members of those injured and killed in the student-public uprising will attend the event.
In addition, along with leaders of various political parties, diplomats from various countries are also expected to attend the event.
