The new political party of the National Citizens Committee and the anti-discrimination student movement, the National Citizens Party (NCP), will be launched today. The party will be officially announced at 3 pm on Friday (February 28) at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital. The party's logo, monogram and flag may also be revealed.
The launch ceremony of the new political party will be attended by family members of those injured and killed in the July Movement. Leaders of various political parties will also be present. Diplomats from various countries are also expected to attend.
The party is trying to hold a large gathering for its launch event on Friday afternoon. Therefore, changing its previous decision, the party organizers yesterday instructed leaders and activists from outside Dhaka to come to the event.
Sarjis Alam, one of the party's main leaders and the main organizer of the northern region, said that banners will come from all over Bangladesh tomorrow under the name of National Citizens Party (NCP). Let Bangladesh be famous for this name.
Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus and his advisors have been invited to the event. NCP leaders went to Yamuna yesterday evening and handed over the invitation letter to the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, some parties have accused the government of supporting the formation of the student leaders' party of the mass uprising and of calling the student party 'King's Party'. Since the party's convener, Nahid Islam, is a former advisor to the current interim government, some have also had the opportunity to question the government's impartiality. Therefore, it is reported that none of the advisors will be present at the inauguration ceremony to avoid controversy. Even two student advisors, Mahfuz Alam and Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, are not attending the ceremony.
Meanwhile, 36 political parties involved in the student-people's uprising, including BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, have been invited to the event. Invitations have been sent to senior leaders including BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed.
Ambassadors, high commissioners and diplomats from 51 countries stationed in Dhaka have been invited. However, the ousted Awami League and its 14-party allies and the Jatiya Party were not invited to the inaugural ceremony of the Jatiya Nagorik Party.
