Sylhet Bureau:
– A huge rally was held in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka on February 26 (Wednesday) at 10 am on the call of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. Former BNP-supporting mayors and councilors from Sylhet Metropolitan Area, like those from across the country, were invited to attend this rally.
Rumors have already started circulating on social media about the presence of former Sylhet City Councilor Awami League leader Shawkat Amin Touhid, who ordered the attack on the student crowd during the Awami League era, is the attacker, is accused in several cases, and is a former councilor of Sylhet City.

Netizens are making various comments about Touhid's presence at the rally. They are also making a storm of comments about another former councilor, Abdur Rakib Tuhin, who resigned from BNP. Some former representatives of Sylhet have met in Dhaka demanding that the national elections should not be preceded by local government elections. Among them, the controversial Shawkat Amin Touhid has been seen with the leaders of Sylhet BNP! Various rumors are going on on social media regarding this, pictures of Awami League leader Touhid at various events are floating around. A video of Touhid has already been seen on social media. It is known from that video, 2022 In 2011, during a BNP meeting in Mirabazar, Sylhet city, former councilor and Awami League leader Shawkat Amin Towhid stopped the meeting along with police and Chhatra League cadres. At that time, he said that they should go to their offices and practice politics, this will not happen in my area.

However, during the tenure of this fallen Awami League, his office was turned into a torture cell of the Awami League. Sources say that his office in the Raynagar area was a terror to everyone. On the other hand, Abdur Rakib Tuhin, former councilor of Ward No. 21 of Sylhet city, was also present at this rally. However, he is not involved in any BNP politics. At one time, he was involved in BNP politics. With the dream of becoming a councilor, he resigned from all types of BNP organizations and politics and came out. There is also a case filed against him for the attack during the anti-discrimination movement. There are also allegations that he was elected through vote rigging by people from the Jubo League, Chhatra League and Awami League.
In his past, he was not seen in any BNP program; on the contrary, his presence at various Awami League events was commendable.
Some BNP leaders, who did not want to be named, said that Shawkat Amin Towhid is involved in Awami League politics and is a defendant in a case for attacking students and the public during the anti-discrimination movement in July-August. Knowing this, the leaders joining the rally with him means disloyalty to the blood of those killed and injured in the July-August movement. How can Shawkat Amin Towhid join the rally with Sylhet BNP leaders while he is on the run from arrest? The buzz has started since he posted about this on social media on Wednesday.
On the other hand, they said that Abdur Rakib Tuhin was once a member of BNP, but even after being banned from the party in the last Sylhet City Corporation election, he resigned and participated in the election. And he was elected by managing Jubo League cadre Major Jahangir of Tila and Azadur Rahman Azad of Tilagarh. A source says that he became a councilor by donating 17 lakh taka. His subsequent history is known to everyone. He has worked for the Awami League. He has not been seen in any BNP function for the past 16 years, but he has been seen in various domestic meetings of the Awami League. Especially the leaders of the Awami League centered in Tilagarh had a hand in him.
