Pirgachha (Rangpur) Representative-
A mobile court has sentenced a businessman named Delwar Hossain (56) to six months' imprisonment and a fine of Tk 2,000 for manufacturing and marketing fake fertilizers and pesticides in Pirgachha, Rangpur. The operation was conducted on Wednesday (February 26) afternoon in Monglakuti village of Parul union of the upazila based on a secret tip-off. The convicted Delwar Hossain is the son of the deceased Jasim Uddin of the village.
It is learned that Delwar Hossain has a fertilizer and pesticide shop in Matia Bazar, which he and his son jointly run. For a long time, he had been manufacturing and packaging fake fertilizers and pesticides of renowned companies in his house and supplying them to the market. On Wednesday afternoon, based on a secret tip-off, Upazila Executive Officer and Mobile Court Executive Magistrate Md. Nazmul Haque Sumon conducted a raid. During the raid, a huge quantity of fake fertilizers, pesticides, packaging materials, packaging machines and various materials were seized from Delwar Hossain's house. Later, he was sentenced to 6 months in prison and fined 2,000 taka.
Upazila Executive Officer and Mobile Court Executive Magistrate Md. Nazmul Haque Sumon said, Delwar Hossain had been manufacturing fake sulfur, zinc and various fertilizers and pesticides for a long time and marketing them using the labels of renowned companies including Syngenta. Farmers were being cheated by this. He was punished after conducting a raid based on secret information.
