On Wednesday (February 26), students of private universities protested at Dhaka University's Madhur Canteen before the announcement of a new student organization. During this, a scuffle broke out between the two sides.
There were attempts to resolve the conflict and disagreement over the posts at the last stage. In the end, Nahid Islam, who had recently resigned from the post of advisor, was finalized as the convener and Akhtar Hossain as the member secretary.
In addition, Sarjis Alam has been finalized as the chief organizer of the northern region, Hasnat Abdullah as the chief organizer of the southern region, and Nasiruddin Patwari as the chief coordinator.
However, to appease everyone, the posts of Senior Joint Convener and Senior Joint Member Secretary were created. Several people have claimed for these two posts. As a result, no decision could be taken. Several sources concerned said that a decision will be taken on these two posts later.
The 151-member committee, including top positions, will be announced on Friday, the day the student leaders who led the July mass uprising launched their party.
However, several former leaders of the Islami Chhatra Shibir left the party at the final stage of its formation process due to conflicts over positions.
However, there was talk that Ali Ahsan Junaid and Rafe Salman Rifat could occupy the two top-level positions created through the agreement.
But the two former leaders of the Islami Chhatra Shibir posted on social media Facebook that they would not be joining the new party.
Several leaders of the party formation said that while there are "some individual and isolated differences", "the overall activities are being taken forward on the basis of consensus".
Many say that such a division over positions before the party is announced could cause an "image crisis" for the party.
Some see the issue differently. According to them, this will give the new party an opportunity to overcome the accusations leveled against it of acting as Jamaat's B-team due to the absence of leaders associated with the Shibir in the party.
The joint conveners of the committee are, Touhid Mohammad Siam, Nurul Gani Sagir, Khan Talat Mahmud Rafi (Chittagong University), Zubair Hossain (Dhaka College), Md. Abdul Karim, Nur Nabi (Jagnath University), Mehedi Sajib (Rajshahi University), Naeem Akhter Rita (Jagnath University), Joy Biswas, Rupaiya Shrestha Tanchangya, Abdullah Md.
