A farmer has died after being attacked by a wild elephant in Rajasthali, Rangamati district. The deceased has been identified as Usching Marma (45). The incident took place at 10 am today, Thursday, in Kaitak Para village of Gaindya union of the upazila. The deceased Usching Marma is said to be the son of the deceased Kya Marma, a farmer of that village.
Rajasthali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury confirmed the incident. He said, Usaching Marma was attacked by an elephant this morning while leaving his house to go to his field in his area. Locals said that he died on the spot after being crushed by the elephant's feet. Locals recovered the body and took it to the hospital, where the on-duty doctor Usaching was declared dead.
The deceased's son, Mangchai Marma, said that work was going on in their banana plantation in Kaitak Para area. His father came face to face with the elephant on his way to the plantation in the morning and was attacked. He died on the spot.
Halamuching Marma, a member of Ward No. 6 of Gaindya Union Parishad (UP) No. 2, told the media that a group of wild elephants often descends on the locality in search of food. On Thursday morning, a group of wild elephants descended on a banana tree. At that time, a farmer named Usaching Marma died in a wild elephant attack.
