Sadrul Ain:
Shipping and Labor Advisor Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain said that Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman gave his speech with understanding.
He said this in reference to the statement made by the army chief warning everyone about the threat to the independence and sovereignty of the country and nation.
He said this in response to a question at a press conference at the Secretariat on Thursday (February 27). The press conference was organized with the industrial establishments of Beximco Limited at the Secretariat's Industrial Park.
Sakhawat Hossain said, "The army chief is a very high-level person for me. He is running an army. He did not say anything without understanding it. You know what the rest is interpretation."
Calling the Army Chief a 'straight forward man', he said, "As far as I know him, he is a very straight forward man, a very, very straight forward man. He says what he says, he means it. So I have a lot of respect for him. I cannot explain what he said or did not say; he can explain that."
In his speech, the army chief mentioned the name of the interim government's chief advisor, Dr. Muhammad Yunus. When Sakhawat Hossain drew his attention to this, he said, "You will ask him (the army chief) about this."
Earlier, at a special event organized at the Rawa Club in the capital yesterday to commemorate the martyrs of the 2009 Peelkhana massacre, Bangladesh Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman warned that mud-slinging, fighting, and bickering among ourselves will endanger the independence and sovereignty of the country and nation.
At this time, he called on everyone to work together.
