A former president of the ward youth wing has been accused of kidnapping a Qatari expatriate named Shamsul Huda Rakib (34) in Companiganj, Noakhali, holding him captive, beating him and robbing him of cash and gold. The joint forces later rescued the kidnapped expatriate after about an hour.
Rozina Akhter, the wife of the victim expatriate, filed a written complaint with the police station late on Wednesday night. The incident took place at around 9 pm on the same day at the Basurhat bus stand in Ward No. 1 of the Basurhat Municipality of the upazila.
The accused Jubo Dal leader, Md. Parvez (37), is the son of Monirul Islam of Ward No. 3 of Basurhat Municipality in the upazila and the former president of the Jubo Dal of the same ward. The kidnapped expatriate is the son of Md. Shahjahan of the same ward.
The written complaint states that expatriate Rakib returned home from Qatar on Wednesday afternoon. Then, around 9 pm on the same day, he reached Basurhat bus stand from Dhaka. His father and younger brother were waiting for him there. There, some unidentified persons including Riyad, Dulal and Labib, led by Jubo Dal leader Parvez, severely beat up expatriate Rakib and his father Shahjahan (59) at the bus stand. At one stage, they snatched 6,000 riyals, 90,000 taka and 6 tons of gold ornaments. Later, they kidnapped Rakib from the bus stand at gunpoint and took him away in an ambulance. When the victim's family immediately informed the police and army, the joint forces conducted a raid and rescued the kidnapped expatriate.
When asked about the allegations, Jubo Dal leader Parvez denied the allegations and said, "There was no incident of kidnapping at gunpoint, robbery of cash and gold ornaments." Rakib was arrested and handed over to the police, but the police released him.
When asked about this, Basurhat Municipality BNP President Abdul Matin Liton said, "I am in a party meeting in Dhaka. I will inform you if I find out about this."
Inspector (Investigation) Bimal Karmakar, who is in charge of the OC of Companiganj Police Station, confirmed the receipt of the written complaint and said, "SI Mainul has been given the responsibility. This incident happened due to a previous enmity. There are political clues, there were previous problems, and there were also family matters."
The OC investigation further said that one of Rakib's brothers had earlier beaten up Parvez's mother. The next incident was that Rakib was beating him up at the bus stand after hearing that he was coming from abroad. The police went to the spot after receiving the call. The incident was a fight, a fight, and Arki was punching. Now that we have received the complaint, we will take action according to the complaint.
