Faridpur Correspondent:
The violence of soil traders does not stop in the urban areas of Faridpur. Trolleys carrying soil are running day and night on various roads of the upazila. Soil from croplands is being cut with a bulldozer in different places of the upazila and sold to various brick kilns with the help of trolleys. A class of unscrupulous soil traders are buying soil from croplands by luring landowners with cash and selling the soil to various brick kilns. In addition, this soil is also being bought to build houses and businesses on croplands.
Soil trader Kamrul Sheikh, son of the late Sattar Sheikh of Laskardia village in Laskardia union of Nagarkanda upazila, has been buying soil from landowners for a long time. It is known that he is currently destroying the cropland and tillage of Gorail village and surrounding areas of Laskardia union, cutting the soil with a shovel and selling it to a brick kiln of an influential person in the area with the help of a trolley. Kamrul has been running his illegal business freely for a long time under some unknown power. Trolleys loaded with soil are plying on the roads of Kalibari Bazar on Nagarkanda-Faridpur road, Jhaparkhali intersection in Laskardia union, Hasanhati, Notun Bazar, and Shakpaldia area of Talma union. The illegal soil business has been going on for a long time under the watchful eye of everyone, including the administration. It seems that no one is watching this.
Apart from soil trader Kamrul, several people including Hannan Matubbar, Pappu, Rizaul, Ramzan, Ohid, Oliur, Basar, Maruf, Farhad are reportedly running the soil business through illegal rickshaws and trolleys in different areas of Nagarkanda Upazila.
Locals said that illegal bulldozers and trolleys are running freely in almost all parts of Nagarkanda Upazila. This is causing great harm to the people of the area. Soil traders are continuing their business freely with the help of influential people in the area. Bulldozers and trolleys are running in the area from morning till late at night. Soil is being transported to different areas with the help of trolleys. The village roads are being damaged while the trolleys are running. In addition, since the soil from the trolleys is lying on the road, the road becomes slippery even after a little rain, causing minor accidents. As bulldozers and trolleys are running all day, dust and sand are spreading everywhere, polluting the environment. The health of the elderly and children is at risk. It has become almost impossible to live a normal life in the area due to the noise of bulldozers and trolleys. But even though the common people of the area complain about this, they are not getting a solution for some invisible reason. Therefore, the violence of soil traders is not stopping!
Nagarkanda Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Masum Billah said that action will be taken according to the law if land is cut illegally.
