Sarishabari police have arrested an Indian national named Shukur Ali (25) on charges of illegally entering Bangladesh. He was detained from Bhatara Bazar in Bhatara Union of the upazila late on Tuesday (February 25) night.
The arrested Shukur Ali is the son of Abdul Wahab Ullah of Anuputi village in Kailash town of Tripura state, India. The matter was confirmed by Chand Mia, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sarishabari Police Station.
According to the case information, Shukur Ali was roaming suspiciously in the Bhatara Bazar area late on Tuesday night. Locals found the matter suspicious and informed the police. Later, the police reached the spot and arrested him and took him to the police station.
During interrogation, it was revealed that he illegally entered Bangladesh through the border of Tripura state of India about 14-15 days ago. However, no valid travel documents were found with him.
Sarishabari Police Station OC Chand Mia said a case has been filed against Shukur Ali on charges of illegal entry into Bangladesh. Later, he was sent to jail by the court on Wednesday (February 26) afternoon.
The incident has created quite a stir among the locals. It is learnt that law enforcement agencies are seriously investigating the matter.
