UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed his strong support for the ongoing reform efforts of Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus. The UN Secretary-General has written to Dr. Yunus expressing his support for the reform efforts.
The letter from the UN Secretary-General was shared on the Chief Advisor's verified Facebook page on Wednesday.
In a letter sent to the Chief Adviser, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, on February 25, Guterres said he shared the concerns of the Chief Adviser on Bangladesh about the impact of the Rohingya crisis on Bangladesh and the region, and the growing humanitarian crisis in Rakhine.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is visiting Bangladesh. He will arrive in Dhaka on March 13 this year and will stay in Bangladesh until March 16. The Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations announced this in a press release on Tuesday (February 25).
The announcement said that the UN Secretary-General will come on this visit at the invitation of Principal Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. During his meeting with the Secretary-General in New York on February 7, the Principal Advisor's High Representative for Rohingya Issues and Priorities, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, handed over the invitation to him.
It is learned that during this visit, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will meet with Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus. Earlier, UN Special Envoy for Myanmar Julie Bishop said that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will visit Bangladesh in mid-March and meet with Rohingyas living in camps in Cox's Bazar.
The UN envoy made the disclosure during a meeting with Bangladesh's Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna on Sunday (February 23). The UN envoy's meeting discussed the Rohingya crisis, exploring new ways to resolve it, and engaging new donors in humanitarian assistance for the more than one million forcibly displaced Rohingya living in refugee camps in southeastern Bangladesh.
