A human chain and half-day work stoppage was observed by LGED officials and employees of Kalai Upazila of Joypurhat in protest against the terrorist attack, vandalism and harassment and intimidation of Engineer Zahir Dehedi Hasan of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) of Mirpur Upazila of Kushtia, and the locking of his office in Raiganj Upazila of Sirajganj.
The hour-long human chain and half-day strike was held in front of the LGED office in Kalai Upazila on Wednesday morning under the slogan "We want proper evaluation of the engineering community to build a developed and prosperous Bangladesh free of discrimination."
The human chain was addressed by LGED Engineer Md. Sirajul Islam of Kalai Upazila of Joypurhat, Deputy Assistant Engineers of LGED Md. Abu Jafar and Md. Sabbir Hossain of the upazila. At that time, all the officers and employees of the LGED office of Kalai Upazila were present at the human chain and half-day work stoppage.
At this time, the speakers said, "We have to go to see the bridges, culverts, roads, ghats, schools, colleges, and madrasas under construction in our villages and cities, so we have to ensure security at our workplaces. We want and must give exemplary punishment to the attackers. Otherwise, we will go on a larger movement with the coordination of all engineers in Bangladesh."
