Police have arrested two Awami League leaders in a case filed against them for attacking a student protest march in Ghoraghat, Dinajpur. They were arrested from their respective homes in an overnight raid on Thursday (February 26).
The arrested are Abdur Rahman (65), president of Bulakipur Union Awami League in the upazila, and Rafiqul Islam (60), former president of the same union.
According to the case details, on the afternoon of August 4 last year, anti-discrimination student protesters went to the bus stand in the city center with a procession. There, the protesters were attacked. A.League, Jubo League and Chhatra League leaders and workers. Several students were injured in this. Vehicles were also vandalized, motorcycles and shops were set on fire. Later, after the fall of the Awami government on August 5, on August 24, Ghoraghat Municipal Student Party member Shahid Sheikh filed a case with the police station. In it, 40 people, including leaders and workers of the Upazila Awami League, were named and 70-80 unknown people were accused.
Ghoraghat Police Station OC Nazmul Haque said two people have been arrested in a case filed against them for attacking a student-public procession. The arrested accused will be handed over to the court on Thursday (February 27).
